AFSA Board Member - Brian Lund
AFSA Board Member since 2018 and heads up the AFSA Governance and Finance Committee
South Australian Committee Member since 2019
Brian worked to become a Senior Extension Officer in the Victoria Government addressing, soil conservation, salinity, farm trees in the Wimmera, Mallee before taking on the management of what was the government’s largest farm forestry nursery at Wail.
Moving to SE Queensland, Brian then established Greening Australia Queensland’s first commercial consultancy supporting governments and landholders in the productive management of native vegetation.
Moving to Cambodia Brian brought his experience in rural Australia, to bear on the international development agenda. This culminating in the Regional Directorship for Oxfam America for over 10 years. Throughout Brian’s tenure his team was widely upheld as leaders in innovation and impact, tackling challenges in agriculture that included an extension program reaching an estimated 1.4 million people in Vietnam, and a further 280,000 people in Cambodia.
On returning to Australia, Brian and Ann where drawn by the opportunity to again be part of the rural community, taking on an independent fertilizer distributorship operating out of Coonalpyn, but with a view to offer something more, particularly given the challenges facing agriculture today.
Where do you see the Fertiliser, in particular the services sector, in the next 10 years?
The challenges facing fertilizer sector touch every aspect of the business from supply, markets, technologies and workplace conditions, through to farmer success and climate change.
Increasingly I think AFSA is pre-positioning to champion our response to many of these challenges. I have no doubt that ten years from now this will mean new opportunities for our membership.
