Incoming AFSA Company Secretary from July 2020.
In February 2020, Neil Henry and Owen McCarron have begun the transition process that will see Owen undertake the role of Company Secretary from July 2020.
Owen lives in Ardmona, Victoria. Ardmona is located to the west of Shepparton in the Goulburn Valley, Australia’s largest apple and pear growing region. Owen grew up in Shepparton before travelling, living in Melbourne and Brisbane and then returning to live in Mooroopna in 2006 where he and his partner Sue Bucheli established conNEXUS global Pty Ltd. An innovative agricultural consultancy focused on crop and soil nutrition.
Owen also has an interest in AFSA member Sonic Essentials Pty Ltd. Sonic Essentials manufactures crop and soil nutrition products in Melbourne which are sold throughout Australian and internationally. Sonic Essentials products are used in all agricultural markets; rain-fed and irrigated cropping; perennial and annual horticulture and pasture.
Sue and Owen are also partners in a small family farming business, Neumos Produce, growing hazelnuts and fodder.
Where do you see the fertiliser industry, in particular the services sector, in the next 10 years?
Opportunity for the fertiliser services sector is significant. Consolidation of agricultural retail in Australia over the past ten years provides great opportunity for independent voice. With limited purchasing choice food producers will seek out independent quality advice and knowledge, in particular for soil and crop nutrition and agronomy. Independent retailers and applicators must be ready to take on this opportunity to assist existing and new clients to appropriately and responsibly apply crop nutrients to achieve maximum yield while reducing environmental risk.
